Lacrosse practice cancelled!
by posted 05/05/2021

Due to inclement weather and soggy fields, boys and girls K-2 practice is cancelled tonight. The next practice will be Sunday at 11:00 at the Wentworth field.

Shorts and shirts are here! If you would like to pick up your player's shorts and shooter shirt (they come with your registration), I will be at the Wentworth Field tomorrow from 5:30-7:00. There will be a box with bags labeled with each players name. You're welcome to come grab yours. If you can't make it tomorrow night, I will have them Sunday at practice.

Rain, rain, go away!

Boys & Girls K-2 Equipment Update
by posted 04/29/2021

As we get ready to kick off the lacrosse season this Sunday, I have been receiving a lot of questions about equipment for boys and girls K-2 players. At the K-2 level, SYL's goal is for the players to have fun and learn to love the game of lacrosse! Our focus is on basic stick skills and lacrosse foundation skills. That being said, our K-2 players do not wear full protective gear like you will see older players wear.

BOYS: At the K-2 level, boys need a stick and mouth guard. SYL has sticks that can be borrowed for the season or players can bring their own. Players will receive shorts and a shooter shirt that they get to keep. Players will also be issued a reversible practice jersey that needs to be worn to every practice and game. The practice jerseys and sticks will be collected at the end of the season. Cleats are also recommended, although not mandatory. When boys lacrosse players enter 3rd grade, they will start playing with helmets and full pads.

GIRLS: At the K-2 level, girls need a stick and mouth guard. When girls lacrosse players enter 3rd grade, they will start playing with goggles.

With the new state mask mandates, face masks for Covid are optional but recommended for players when they are on the bench or in close proximity to others.

See you all Sunday! And yes, we have lacrosse on 5/9 (Mother's day)!

Updated mask guidelines
by posted 04/28/2021

Please note: Scarborough Youth Lacrosse will be following the Maine Principals Association's updated mask guidelines. See below for updated information...

High school athletes will no longer need to wear face coverings during outdoor competitions, the Maine Principals’ Association announced Wednesday.

The announcement comes a day after Gov. Janet Mills announced that masks are no longer mandated outdoors.

As part of the changes, the MPA announced that:

•  Masks are not required for outdoor practices and competitions.  Masks are recommended when 6 feet of physical distance is hard to maintain, such as for athletes on the bench. They are also required when individuals go inside to use locker rooms or restrooms, or when on a bus.

•  Spectators are not required to wear a mask at outside events if they are able to maintain 6 feet of distancing.

Let's play lacrosse!
by posted 04/25/2021

K2 Girls will start practice on Sunday, 1May from 11-12 at the Wentworth Field (behind the playground).

The girls do not need their own sticks - we will provide them.  If they have their own sticks, they are welcome to use them.  Typically, stick length should be slightly longer than their arm length to the base of the head.  Our sticks are cut short so they work for the little ones.

We will tape and put names on the sticks and I will record who has one.  If they are not returned at the end of the season, you will get a bill for the stick.  The same goes for the reversibel pennies that we will issue to the girls.

They should come dressed for the weather and ready to play.  Other than that, they do not need anything else.  We play with swax balls or pink soft rubber balls.

Practices will be on Wednesdays from 5:30-6:30 and Sundays from 11-12.  If it looks like rain, we will cancel by early afternoon by email.

Allie Edmunds has volunteered to be our team admin.  We will send out more info as we need too.  See you all Sunday!

Any questions, please let me know.
