Tonight
It looks like the weather may continue to cooperate enough to pull this off tonight. That's my assumption for now, anyway.
As promised, we will have an official referee tonight.
Reminder and thanks to the folks who are collecting materials for the post-game celebration: Play should finish at 7 PM.
Thanks to all for a great year!

Season Finale Jun 14
My current plan is to finish the Monday sessions for the Boys 1-2 group next Monday, June 14.
To celebrate that final session, SYL will fund pizza, watermelon and drinks for players and their families at the end of play that evening.
I would very much appreciate one or more parents volunteering to coordinate that event. Please let me know if you are willing to do this.

SoPo Tournament Postponed
The South Portland Rec Dept has postponed tomorrow's scheduled tournament until Sunday, June 13.
Personally, I have other things scheduled for that day. However, there are other coaches who can steer the teams, and I would consider passing on some of my other plans if it's important to our member families.
Please let me know ASAP whether you prefer that the teams attempt to attend this rescheduled tournament, or pass on it. (Please keep in mind that we will have had a full morning of games the day before at Cape Elizabeth.)

Sunday Tournament
Here is what the South Portland tournament director passed along yesterday afternoon:
Hello everyone,
It does look like rain is in the forecast so I wanted to send out an email - We will hold the games unless it is down pouring or thunder/lightning. So please dress and plan accordingly (extra socks, blankets, rain jackets).
If I decide to cancel the tournament I would notify teams anytime between Saturday 7pm - Sunday 6:30am (the latest). I will send an email out - and post it on our website below.
You can find schedule, map, and directions on the website below - Coaches please check-in at the Field House to receive your teams packet and t-shirts.

Practice is On
On radar now, it looks like the only wet weather likely to hit before practice ends is breaking up and may not even exist by the time it reaches Scarborough. See you at Memorial, but if the weather looks at all suspicious at 5:30, please hang with us until we're sure we're going forward. Likewise if the weather turns bad before 7:00 PM, please return early. Thanks!

Cumberland Wrap-Up
Thanks so much to all the folks who came and hung out in the crummy weather yesterday afternoon! It was well worth it for the kids. As they did last week, they grew right before our eyes yesterday.
As a team, the big things were the beginnings of a spread-out, team-based approach to offense. Much more passing, much less crashing into an impenetrable wall of opposing players. And especially near the end, you could see the result, as we had the Cumberland defense scrambling all over their defensive zone. We got some easy goals from that.
Individually, a few more kids each game have begun to use their weak hand when appropriate. If I'm not mistaken, big Seth even scored that way yesterday. I've told the kids this and I really mean it: In my mind, going to heir weak hand in the middle of the game is about the bravest thing they can do out there. So many risks to doing it! But no better way to improve at it than to do it under game pressure.
Coming up this week: More focus on defense. The path to success requires it, and the team needs a few more athletes to step up and embrace it.

Cumberland Update
This is going to be another tricky weather call. Radar shows a bunch of rain coming, but it's moving fast and may be gone by game time. On the other hand, lightning could be an issue. Keep an eye here.
Regarding the double-scheduled game (see below), I haven't heard back from the Cumberland folks yet. But swapping fields is such a simple solution that it seems like a no-brainer. Everyone should expect a field swap, but please be prepared to be flexible.

Weather Watch
It looks like we've got another tricky weather day today, and I think whether we hold practice or not may have to be a practice-time decision. Please don't leave your kids today until you are certain that we will hold practice.
If we do hold practice it will be warm, so please make sure your child has at least 1 liter of water with them.

Scrimmage Session
It's a little hard to tell from the weather radar whether stormy weather will be an issue for our session today. Please remain nearby in case we need to declare a sudden end to the festivities.
In the meantime, please be sure there is plenty of water (no sugary drinks) for your player during the session.
I notice that Dave has us scheduled for 90 minutes. In the past I have done 60 minutes, which has seemed to work well. Please be ready to give me your feelings on 60 or 90 and, if 60, whether it works better to start at 5:30 or 6:00.
See you there!

Bob Marley Show 6pm May 2nd
The Scarborough Lacrosse Boosters support the High School and Middle School lacrosse teams for boys and girls. Budget cuts caused the school committe to eliminate the 7th and 9th grade teams until the Boosters funded their 2010 season. Local comedian, Bob Marley, has offered to perform a family friendly show to help us fund these teams. Tickets are only $20 per person. Please go to www.bobmarleycomedyshow.eventbrite.com to purchase and print your tickets. I hope you and your friends can join us for a fun night of entertainment and help the lacrosse kids in Scarborough. Thank you.
